Garden fences represent the entrance to your home and play a key role in creating a positive first impression for visitors and passersby. Painting a metal fence can significantly change the appearance of your exterior, providing a quick, simple, and effective solution. As colder days approach, it is the ideal time for restoration and protection of metal fences.

Proper treatment and protection of outdoor metal structures prevent rapid deterioration and extend their lifespan. The most suitable temperature for painting is between 10 – 30°C. Therefore, choose a day with nice weather, without rain or fog, as high humidity can extend the drying time of the paint.
Preparing the Metal Fence for Painting
Before starting the painting process, it is necessary to properly prepare the surface. This preparation ensures better paint adhesion and provides additional protection to the substrate. Whether you are refreshing interior or exterior metal surfaces, the preparation process is the same.
Remove rust from the fence mechanically, using sandpaper or a wire brush. The surface is ready for painting when it becomes smooth and there are no visible traces of rust. After sanding, wipe the surface with a dry cloth to remove all remaining dust. Clean grease and other impurities with NITRO thinner. During preparation, it is mandatory to wear protective equipment, including gloves, safety glasses, and a mask.
Always work outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, as chemical solvents and grinders produce fumes and dust.

Protecting the Metal Surface
When choosing paints for renovation, priority should be given to products with low volatile organic compound (VOC) content. These water-based products are environmentally friendly, characterized by the absence of unpleasant odors and harmful fumes. They provide high protection against atmospheric influences and UV rays. To prevent rust formation and ensure proper paint adhesion, apply 1-2 coats of DURLIN AQUA Metal Primer to a dry and clean surface.
Choosing the Coating and Paint
If your fence has wooden parts, it is recommended to use the finishing coat DURIN AQUA Enamel. This eco-friendly water-based coating is highly resistant to weather conditions and does not contain unpleasant odors, making it suitable for indoor use as well. It is suitable for both metal and wooden surfaces, allowing for uniform painting of all surfaces.
Start by applying the first coat of paint. For even application, brushes made of synthetic fibers or small rollers are recommended, as they provide better control and prevent the formation of streaks or unevenness. First, paint the complex and hard-to-reach parts, then move on to the front and back sides, as well as the edges of the gate. Allow the paint to dry for 2 to 4 hours, and for better durability and intensity, it is recommended to apply a second coat.

Inspection of Work
After completing the work, perform a final inspection of the fence to ensure everything is in excellent condition. Pay attention to any missed spots, color differences, or other imperfections that should be corrected. Use a fine brush to fix them, taking care not to disturb the rest of the paintwork. Regular inspection and repair of minor damage further contribute to the preservation and beauty of your fence.
With careful preparation and proper paint application, your fence will be a beautiful, durable, and functional detail of your home!
